It would be great if Playit Live could be used across a network of PC's with one central server for the music storage.

"This is available in PlayIt Manager 1.00 which will synchronise with PlayIt Live 1.11"

Hi Aidan,
This is a large task, but it is planned for the future.

I just attempted to do it by editing the XML file, but to no avail!

This depends on your settings. If you have selected SQLite database as your data storage you should be able to copy this file (C:\ProgramData\PlayIt Live\playitlive.db on Windows 7) to another computer and start up PlayIt Live on that computer.

Would it not be possible to set the option if where the database is located. So if all pc's had a network share mapped under drive M for example so the address of the music was the same for all computers, you could then host the database in the same place such as M:\playitlive.db. Then any changes you make from one workstation will automatically be used by any other workstation.

Hi Radio Cabin
Currently this would not be possible as some elements from the database are loaded into memory to improve performance, so changes to the database from another workstation would not be picked up until the application was restarted.

This feature is not available in any radio broadcasting systems under 1000£ and typically more than twice that. none of the free or cheap automation systems support any kind of shared playlist/music database.
As a Computer Engineer I recognise the challenge in share memory and locked resources, but I can also provide a simplified design solution which should make the task possible.
My main requirement is that the PC which is installed in the studio, is able to synchronize its database and library with another instance of Play It live. Preferable without a restart.
I could suggest if you can identify a "safe" state of the program, where local instances of the database are not currently accessed, and then provide a button for the use to press, for updating the program. This part minimizes the modifications of the Playit program but would require a development of a "server application" which can be installed on the network and handle the synchronization requests.
The server application can be limited in functionality, and basically only contain a data base, and a folder with all the data. Accept only sync commands.
Authorisation could be nice, but a future feature.
This application could start out as a beta, enabling us to try it out and help you find the bugs without interfering with the stability of your main product "play it live" .
You are welcome to contact me if you want more inputs or if I can do something for promoting this item. I will talk to the network of Danish Student Radios and get more radios to vote for this item to show the importance for us.

Synchronisation of Track and Track Group is now available with PlayIt Manager which you can download a preview from here: https://www.playitsoftware.com/Products/Manager . It requires the latest beta of PlayIt Live available here (Download Beta): https://www.playitsoftware.com/Products/Live
This is a minimal version of PlayIt Manager in order to evaluate the synchronisation of Track and Track Group data only. Your feedback on this version is essential to ensure the success of the final product.
I will leave this feature request as IN PROGRESS until the final version is released.
